MKC Training Facility

The MKC Training Facility consists of two agility rings and a third smaller general purpose ring that can be used for obedience, rally and conformation training.

Usage Guidelines

This facility is provided for the use of Mattaponi Kennel Club members and MKC dog sport classes.MKC students may used these grounds only during scheduled classes and organized practice times. 

General Rules for All Users

  • Potty your dogs outside the ring and away from the fence before beginning training. Pick up any solid waste.
  • Do not allow dogs to eliminate on the fencing, equipment, or sheds.
  • Clean up accidents in the rings.
  • Dispose of all waste at home.
  • Do not tie dogs to fence at any time.
  • Do not let dogs run loose anywhere on these grounds -- the rings are provided for training purposes, not to provide ordinary exercise, and loose dogs outside the rings may encounter neighborhood dogs, which may present a danger.
  • Children must be supervised by an adult.

RULES FOR MKC MEMBERS DURING NON-CLASS HOURS

MKC members may use this facility from 9AM to 9PM, Monday through Saturday year-round and on Sundays from November through March PROVIDED:

  • At least 2 adult MKC members are present and they have a working cell phone.
  • The handler AND dog have experience at the Advanced level or higher to use the agility equipment OR a MAD instructor is present to supervise use of the equipment.
  • An MKC membership placard is displayed in each member’s car. (available in files section on the member's web site)
  • Junior members are supervised by an adult.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

  • Prop up hinged weave pole bases (into A-frame configuration) or lay them sideways on the ground.
  • Return “fragile” equipment, such as chutes, to the shed.
  • Lock all shed and trailer doors.
  • Close all gates and secure with bungies or locks where appropriate.
  • Turn off lights in the MKC area and in the Horse ring.

OTHER REMINDERS

  • DO NOT give the lock combinations to any non-member.
  • Do not move obstacles if signs indicate that the course has been set for a future class.
  • If the gate to the Fairgrounds is open when you arrive, leave it open when you leave; if it is locked when you arrive, lock it when you leave.
